Going Bananas!

Here at SAVE food hub we like it when we network effectively with other groups and events locally to prevent food waste.

Many local groups and businesses supported the Grizzly Race (an annual gruelling race from Seaton through Beer, Branscombe and back organised by Axe Valley Runners). Tesco Seaton donated a huge pile of bananas so that every runner could enjoy a healthy snack when they finished the race. Staff from LED (Leisure East Devon) stepped in to hand out the fruit. At the end of the day, there were some bananas left and these found their way to the Seaton Community Larder where they were very welcome. We sent some to Seaton and Axminster food banks and Seaton Primary school. We handed out quite a few at Seaton Community larder and left some at Seaton Library for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a photo from earlier in the day when the pile of fruit was still quite large.

Bananas are, of course, a tasty and easily portable snack, they also contain fibre, potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6 amongst other good things and have benefits for digestive and heart health.
