Allotment and Garden Surplus

I recently saw a picture of this painting which seems representative of this time of year. It was painted in about 1591 by Arcimboldo of what appears at first glance to be a jumble of fruit and vegetables but, on second glance, it turns out to be a portrait.

It put me in mind of the fantastic quantities of vegetables which local people have donated to the community larder. Rhubarb, courgettes, tomatoes, runner beans, marrows, apples and pears: a very welcome addition to our larder.

Local people bring their surplus to the larder and it is then included on our shelves or offered to the community via the fridge in the library.

Thank you very much to everyone who has brought their allotment and garden surplus along!
